Misbah ul Haq to use PSL as international career-decider

Misbah ul Haq to use PSL as international career-decider

Misbah ul Haq may decide on Retirement after PSL

Defending champions Islamabad United hadn’t been given too much of a chance in the previous edition of the Pakistan Super League but Pakistan captain Misbah ul Haq carved out the title for them last season. He will continue to lead them this year in the PSL but more importantly has said he will take a decision about his Test match career at the end of the Pakistan Super League.

And it is not going to be about his form or run-scoring ability or even fitness. Misbah ul Haq has said he wants to gauge whether there still exists any amount of hunger for him to continue after playing at the highest level at the end of this edition of the PSL.

Misbah said he could well have given up on playing international cricket at the end of the Test series against England that the side managed to draw 2-2 away from home but also added it wouldn’t been the most appropriate way to go about it.

In a talk with ESPNCricinfo, the Islamabad United skipper added: “You sometime don’t see your own achievements and personal gains. You also have to think about the team you have built, you have to see where it stands at a certain stage. Otherwise it was easy for me to retire after taking Pakistan to number one.”

The skipper said he had a fair idea about what he had to lose from the series in New Zealand and Australia where Pakistan went down in five Test matches in a row.

The second edition of the PSL will be played between February 9 and March 5 with five teams fighting it out for the title again. The first day of the competition will see the Opening Ceremony being held in Dubai before Misbah ul Haq Islamabad United take on Peshawar Zalmi, who are being led by Darren Sammy this time and will also have Shahid Afridi in their line-up.
